An Inner Critic may:
* Evaluate and judge our feelings and behavior and sometimes
our core self.
*Tell us what we should and shouldn't do.
*Criticize us for not meeting its expectations or the
expectations of significant people in our lives.
* Doubt our capacity to achieve success or happiness.
* Make us feel guilty or ashamed about ourselves or
something we have done.

The Inner Champion: Our work suggests that we can each
develop an aspect of the Self that we call the Inner Champion.
This is a magic bullet for dealing with the negative impact of the
Inner Critic. Since we have outlined seven types of Inner Critics,
we have also identified seven corresponding types of Inner
Champions.

Each of these Champions has a number of important
capacities:
*The strength to set boundaries on attacks from the Inner
Critic
*The capacity to nurture and comfort parts that are at the
effect of the Inner Critic
* An intuitive ability to hold a wider vision and see things
from a broader perspective
*The capacity to plan and take effective action

We have found that helping our clients to bring forth these
capacities sustains the healing work done around the Inner Critic.

About the Author
Bonnie Weiss, M.A., LCSW, is a psychotherapist, teacher, supervisor, trainer, and coach who has been practicing since 1974. Her distinctive approach incorporates the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model into an emotionally-deep, present-centered, yet action-oriented way of working. She combines a quick mind, clear insight, and sharp intuition with solid experience in developing trusting and meaningful transformative relationships. Her commitment is to facilitate personal growth and help people live to their highest potential.

Bonnie has taught classes and workshops on the Inner Critic and self-esteem, overeating, and IFS. She has most recently taught in Israel, Ireland, and at Easlen Institute. She is known for her clear and open teaching.

She is the author of Self Therapy for Your Inner Critic, The Illustrated Workbook for Self Therapy for You Inner Critic, and Activating Your Inner Champion, and the following audio products: IFS Basic Class and IFS Demonstration Sessions.

Bonnie serves as program design and development consultant for Lucid Learning Systems, a provider of curriculum for personal transformation. She was a director and faculty member of the Gestalt Therapy in Long Island and co-director of the Long Island Center for Eating Disorders.

Her private practice in the Bay area and by telephone focuses on individuals, couples, and professional supervision.

Bonnie is a licensed clinical social worker in California (LCSW23697) and New York (R018841)

Fabulous workbook

This workbook is a fabulous complement to Self-Therapy for Your Inner Critic. It elucidates the main points of the book and provides well designed exercises to help integrate these concepts. I love the fact that you can open up to any page in the workbook and have an important idea reinforced. I work with groups of arthritis patients and I intend to use this in my work with them.

Understanding the Inner Critic can help one do IFS work more effectively, and these books together provide an excellent format for this deeper understanding. I was enchanted by the illustrations, especially the concept of the flashlight that sheds the light of consciousness on the various parts. The book provides a number of different modalities for the user to work with the ideas.

I was particularly heartened by the concept of the Inner Champion. It supports people to see that they can unburden and transform in a number of ways. I like the idea that it can mediate the impact of the Inner Critic, while there is also the Inner Mentor that can provide supportive guidance based on the kernel of truth in the criticism.

Inner work made clear

I was delighted to discover this workbook for Self Therapy for the Inner Critic. It makes so many of the basic concepts of IFS easily accessible. Each page explores and clarifies one concept, in a clear and efficient way. The questions and exercises really aid in deeper understanding, and the combination of illustrations and cognitive prompting works to stimulate and educate. I appreciated the sequencing and the flow of this workbook. It takes the student smoothly from one idea to the next, helping the integration of what can be complex material. I can easily see it being useful for a broad spectrum of IFS students, from adolescents and young adults to clients who are just learning to work with this model. I so appreciate that Bonnie and Jay have brought this important and powerful healing tool to the general public in such an accessible way.
