The book provides a very good introduction to mobile robots.

This is a very good introductory book on mobile robots. It assumes no background of the readers in the subject. Chapter 3 provides a introduction to the hardwared aspects including sensors and actuators. Chapter 4 on machine learning by robots is also very very interesting. The case studies presented in chapter 5 and 6 will be very much useful to the new-entrants of this discipline. Chapter 7 on analysis of robot behaviour is important for the researchers working in the discipline.I like the book for its simplicity in presentation and direct reference to the points to be discussed, rather than providing a lengthy introduction to the topics. The phrase "A practcical introduction" in the title is really worthwhile for the book.

Not exactly as promised

I have tried to use this book several times over the years to estimate the cost of modifications, and I have found that the prices are way off, even with inflation adjustments. Some of the projects have ended up costing twice what was predicted in the book.
However, the book does seem to do a pretty good job of laying out what is required for each type of modification, and includes references to the proper part of the ADAAG for details on the specifications for accessibility.

Thisnbook has old prices but good guidelines on what is needed to do, time required and materials for an ADA type modification. You can then give the guidelines to a contractor to price out. I find it a good resource for my work as an OT case manager and life care planner.

Another Magical Animal Adoption Agency Story

This is the second book in the Magical Animal Adoption Series. It was a cute story which deals with the importance of caring for animals, believing in yourself and others as well as looking beyond what is right in front of your face.

Clover works at the Magical Animal Adoption Agency. They have brought in a mysterious egg and do not know what will hatch. Mr. Jams goes off to bring back an egg expert and leaves Clover in charge. While he is gone, lots of things happen. The egg hatches, but Clover can not find the animal. She sets all kinds of traps but has no success. What she does find are things being chewed up, food eaten and items destroyed. She must catch the magical animal before Mr. Jams returns. Meanwhile a box of kittens is left on the doorstep. One floats, one tumbles, one send sparks from its tail and the last freezes things with looks from its eyes. She is becoming very worried that she is not able to do the job Mr. Jams has given her. Luckily her pet kitten, Dipity, is able to calm the kittens. She handles a couple of adoptions (a unicorn and a fairy horse) quite successfully. She meats a giant couple who want a pet, but she has nothing for them at the time. The Vetranarian, the giants, the ghost and the Leprechauns all let her know what a great job she is doing. In the end, everything turns out just right. A great story with simple black and white illustrations that give just enough visuals to appeal to children.

10yo daughter was so excited to finally get this book and find out what was in the egg! She loved the first book and loved this sequel. She has read it a few times already. Overall and fun read for younger kids. .

I'm looking forward to more books in this series. It will appeal to the children I babysit- a 7 year-old princess and magic-loving girl and a 5 year-old animal-loving boy! Looking forward to reading both books to them.

With a bit of judicial skimming can be enjoyable

Herbert Adams is not exactly a household name, even among devout detective story readers. About all that I could find about him (I didn't make much effort) was that he was a prolific professional writer born in 1874, dying in 1952. Several of his mysteries are available on Amazon, at a cost of four bucks, five (overlapping lists) on Gutenberg (free). If you have kindle 3 they are easily downloaded, if any of the Fire, with rather more difficulty (detailed on the Guternberg website).
This book is one of his last, having been published in the 1950's. It follows the fundamental format of the classic mystery, already well-established by the time Christie, Sayers, Van Dine, Queen and the other big names, came along to polish the formula. His working life, therefore, spans several eras in the development of a still vital sub-genre. The story takes place, where else, in a stately manner owned by an elderly former labor union official who married wealth. His son, an MP (member of parliament)has induced his father to open the family's mansion to a group of Labor Party officials and some others so that he can persuade them that his vision for the future of Labor was sound and that he, naturally, should be seen as the potential leader of that New Labor Party. Among the guests invited a day earlier than the much larger number due to come the next day is the scion of a wealthy philanthropist, whom we learn, is an amateur detective as well, a married couple who, having spent their wealth on fun and games, are now down and out, and looking to create a situation for the MP which would induce him to part with some of his family's lucre so as to avoid a scandal, and the MP's Live-in girlfriend as well as the girl he hopes will be her replacement.
Now a word of warning. After a good lead-in to the story, the author chooses to give to the reader the entire text of the speech the MP rehearses at a gathering of this small group before the Main Event the next day. We are treated to his conception of what the Labor Party should be. This might be of some remote interest to readers in the UK (though I doubt it) but certainly is of no interest, whatsoever, to readers in other countries. It is, however, a dead weight retarding the momentum of the story. I quickly skimmed the section, you can omit it entirely and not lose a beat of the story line. At any rate, at the speech's blessed end, during the the viewing of a television program which most of the group were watching, a shot rang out, a murder had taken place.
From that point on, it is a good amateur detective, "cozy", mystery. There are overheard conversations, surprising turnabouts in character, a Scotland Yard nabob, whose bacon is saved by the amateur, and all the usual furnishings of a Manor in which Murder has been committed.
I enjoyed it sufficiently to go over to Gutenberg to get a few more of his works (allowing me to use the money Amazon would have received to buy other kindle books later on).This is not top of the line Christie or Allingham, but it is good reading from a skilled professional. It should entertain those who are aficionados of what are currently called "cozies", as well as others who are not exclusively addicted to life in the raw.

There is some useful information, but nothing we didn't know from other ...

Should be marketed to beginners only, not for experienced growers.

This is a $75 book, maybe. The book is extremely well packaged and produced however there is no detail and no scientific basis for any claims. This is a very simple presentation of one style of growing, with a set of techniques that are established. There is some useful information, but nothing we didn't know from other sources that are free. There are high quality photos and but no details or explanations for them. For example, one line says 'put your soil in the pot' but does not mention anything about the type of medium specifications... Potting soil from Home Depot could be interpreted as 'soil' and only an experienced grower would understand not to use that.

Not enough information overall. Concepts that we understand well, he puts into a rule as opposed to explaining why it is or what the outside limits and parameters are for any given information. Simply stating that humidity should be 55% is over-simplistic and not really teaching anything.

Great photos! Clear photos that show specific examples and specific processes. The photos will really help gear an inexperienced grower towards what they should be looking at at any phase.

For the very absolute beginner who doesn't want to scour through forums and sift through mis-information online, there are a lot of great photos and step-by-step instructions.

PLEASE DO NOT GET SCAMMED INTO BUYING THIS.

Please do not buy this book. There is nothing in it worth even $100. It is simple common knowledge from a solid $40-50 grow book but with WAY less useful information. There is no backing science in the book. There are no ppm levels, no discussion of what is in the nutrients, nothing remotely academic or professional. There is very little in the way of substance in this book. Mostly its professional pictures and pages with (literally) one or two sentences in BIG letters. The English grammar and general language are not even academic. Better idea: Watch their 2 minute promo video in slow/stop motion for the veg pruning and "schwazze" method. Cut all fan leaves off on first day of flowering till it looks like their video, same for week 3 and trellis/cage plants for support. Any good nutrient line will do. There, that's it. Everything else; cloning, temp, CO2 levels, humidity are common knowledge. This book is hype. These guys are robbing naive people. Take it from me, I have the money to waste. do you?
